Tehran is prepared to reinitiate nuclear discussions with Washington on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has announced.

The Iranian diplomat stated exclusively dialogue worked, and disclosed recent overtures had been made by intermediaries to restart discussions with the Trump administration. He said Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran had not yet reached a point to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit struck enrichment centers for security reasons.

Navigating a Difficult Route

Araghchi is navigating a complex path since Iran wishes not to appear to be proceeding from a situation of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more resilient militarily and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the impasse in the prior discussions.

Prior Negotiations Unexpectedly Concluded

The earlier sessions of negotiations between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and hostile termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, targeted Iranian nuclear sites in a fortnight-long engagement that ended with the US president asserting the locations had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states exercised their authority to restore global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a significant effect.

Tehran representatives stated they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could refine atomic fuel.
